Hadean Energy: Innovative Australian Hydrogen Electrolysis Technology

Lower Cost, Scalable and Higher Efficiency Electrolysis

RFC Ambrian is pleased to share an update on Hadean Energy Limited, the venture company we founded in collaboration with CSIRO to commercialise their advances in tubular Solid Oxide Electrolysis (tSOE) technology.

Hadean’s unique technology is lower cost, more readily scalable and up to 30% more energy efficient than competing electrolysis technologies. Utilising industrial waste heat to increase efficiency, tSOE converts steam into hydrogen and oxygen in an electrochemical reaction, using a ceramic electrolyte.

On 25 October, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and The Rt Hon Sir Keir Starmer KCB KC MP, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom announced Hadean as a grant recipient under the Australia-UK Renewable Hydrogen Innovation Partnership Program. Under this program, the two Governments will support six cutting-edge projects focused on industrial decarbonisation.

Hadean will utilise the grant funding to design, build and test a 5kW tSOE system. The system will be demonstrated both in Australia and in the UK with EDF Energy – the UK’s largest zero carbon energy generator. During the design and testing phase of the new system, Hadean will partner with Certscape, an Australian certification platform, to verify the output as green hydrogen production both in Australia and the UK. The project will accelerate Hadean’s technology scale-up and is the next step in delivering commercial electrolyser production by 2030.

We are delighted that Hadean Energy has been announced as a successful applicant for the Australia – UK Renewable Hydrogen Innovation Partnerships grant. The grant funding is a strong endorsement of Hadean’s unique tSOE technology and will help fast-track our mission to accelerate industrial decarbonisation. We look forward to sharing more exciting developments with Hadean’s stakeholders in the near future.
